Brave service dog saves the life of 6-year-old boy with diabetes when he smells his sugar levels drop while sleeping: 'He's a hero'

Service dogs are more than good boys, they're heroes.

Dogs impress us without training, but when they're trained to be a service dog and save the lives of others, it really puts into perspective how incredible these animals really are. Dogs are so smart that they work for us! And oftentimes they really enjoy it. They're trained to smell all sorts of things. In the video below, a little 6 year old's life is saved by the help of his service dog. The dog stops his owner from taking an evening shower and gestures her to go to the little boy's bedroom. He has type 1 diabetes, and his sugar levels aren't supposed to drop below 75 so that they have time to help him. They check his levels and sure enough it's at 73. The service dog miraculously smelled it from two rooms away with the door closed. They're truly miraculous animals.

Service dogs show us what can happen when those extraordinary natural abilities are carefully developed and given a purpose. Whether they're navigating a busy street, retrieving an important object, or alerting someone to a potential medical problem, these hardworking pups demonstrate that a dog's nose can make an enormous difference in a person's life. Maybe you know someone else who's life was saved or affected by a service dog. The funny thing is that they don't have to be service dogs to essentially save our lives in a way.

A dog's world is what he smells. That's why they're always sniffing everything on walks, and it's something impossible for a person to imagine. Their sense of smell is vastly more sensitive than ours or other animals, allowing them to actually learn a lot from their surroundings and father information from scents we're not even capable of smelling. A dog can smell something for just a second and they can know something about another animal, person, food, or environment, just like in the story below. Their natural ability combined with special training makes for heroic and heartwarming stories like the one here.
